Sir: Since coming to power, the incumbent PPP has been pursued closely by the Supreme Court in one corruption case after the other. Three of the ministers including the prime minister have been accused of contempt of court. One feels that the Supreme Court is the only institution that is functioning in Pakistan. However, before one gets overjoyed at this truth, the inability of the Supreme Court to convict criminals is questionable. It is time that the courts come out of saving the system mode and make things happen. A system built on sleaze and surviving on corruption has little chance to serve the commoner who is broken to bare bones by inflation and the uselessness of the government machinery to provide security and safety. Corruption has made this government weak from within. They have lost the mettle. It is just a façade of goodwill that they have adorned themselves with. One push and they will be in bottomless darkness. ASHFAQ AHMED Karachi
