Sir: A Pakistani passenger plane crashed near the capital, Islamabad, on Friday evening and 127 people on board were feared dead, officials said. The plane belonged to Bhoja Air, a private Pakistani airline, with 118 passengers and nine crew members on board. Bad weather was reported to be the cause of the crash. Bhoja Air, based in the southern port city of Karachi, began flights in 1993, but suspended operations in 2001 because of financial trouble. It had resumed operations early this year. Friday’s flight was the first on the Karachi-Islamabad route. The crash comes nearly two years after an Air Blue plane fell in the Margalla Hills near Islamabad in fog and heavy rain. It was the deadliest crash in Pakistan’s history, and left 152 passengers dead. The Bhoja Air flight took off at 5:00 pm from Karachi and was scheduled to land at the Islamabad airport later in the evening. There were reports of rainstorms in the area at the time, but it is likely to take investigators weeks to determine the cause of the crash. As many people lost their lives, I request all the airlines to be aware of such things so that they can prevent such tragic incidents.SYEDA SARAH HAIDERVia e-mail
