Sir: History tells us that a society that follows the principle of ‘might is right’ eventually thins out as a useless lot of people. With a heavy heart, I am expressing my views on the formation of the Board of Directors (BOD) of the State Bank of Pakistan, the central bank, engaged in making the monetary policies of the country. Since the State Bank represents the entire country, it should recruit and hire employees on merit from every corner. However, the truth is that not a single person is ever recruited from rural Sindh to the BOD of State Bank of Pakistan. After the promulgation of the 1973 constitution, the job quota for dwellers of rural areas was decided which, for reasons untold, could not be implemented in letter and spirit. Sindh is not being given representation according to the quota in the appointment of advisers, deputy governors, directors and executive directors by the State Bank. On the BOD of the State Bank of Pakistan, no director has been nominated from rural Sindh. People of Sindh therefore are right to demand action to be taken against the violators of the 1973 constitution. DR ALI AKBAR DHAKAN Karachi
