LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a detailed meeting with Export Import Bank (Exim Bank) of China President Liu Liange at the headquarters of the bank on Tuesday. Talking to the bank’s president, the CM said that CPEC was the most vital part of One Belt, One Road initiative, and maintained that the positive impacts of the great project would be felt at the international level. “This project is the reflection of political acumen and futurist approach of Chinese President Xi Jinping; which would help a number of countries to come closer, entering a new era of development, prosperity and peace.” Talking about the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, the CM said that every effort was being made to work speedily on the mass transit project. Due to some legal complexities, delay had occurred at some points, but every effort would be made to remove the backlog as soon as the court permission was granted, he said. He said that quality, transparency and fast-track completion had been ensured in the projects initiated in collaboration with China in Pakistan, especially in Punjab. “The coal power plant set up in collaboration with China in Sahiwal has started producing electricity, while work is going on day and night on other projects. I have been personally supervising the progress on projects,” he added. He said that every penny received from China was being utilised as a sacred trust, and that’s the reason many a projects were touching new heights today. The Exim Bank of China president told the chief minister that the Punjab government had come up to the expectations of Chinese financial institutions with regard to quality, speed and transparency. “We feel fully secured and satisfied about the projects having involvement of the Punjab chief minister, because Shahbaz Sharif is known for completing work well in time and he has also proved this thing with his actions.” He assured the chief minister that financial cooperation with Punjab would continue in the future as well. The chief minister presented an album of photographs showing development on different development projects in Punjab, including energy and infrastructure-related projects. The Exim Bank president appreciated the development on projects in Punjab and lauded the performance of Shahbaz Sharif. In the attendance of Shahbaz Sharif and the Exim Bank president, an agreement on governmental soft loans was signed for Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite Project between the Ministry of Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatisation of the government of Pakistan and the Exim Bank of China. A delegation led by the NORINCO president called on Shahbaz Sharif in Beijing and discussed the development on Orange Line Metro Train. While talking to the delegation, the chief minister said that the Orange Line Metro Train project heralded a new culture of transport. He said that after the orange line, a project of setting up many more such lines in Punjab had also been envisaged. He said that Orange Line Metro Train was meant for the common man, and vowed that all difficulties arising in this regard would be removed by him personally. He said that different projects were being initiated in Punjab in collaboration with China, and the people were benefiting from growing economic collaboration between Pakistan and China. He maintained that the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project was an unusual gift of Pak-China friendship, love and affection. “High-quality work is being done on civil works of the project. This project would be a great masterpiece of architecture, transparency and high quality, and would prove as a game-changer project for providing latest, speedy and economical international standard transport facilities to the common man.” Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif met a high-level delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology led by Director Luv Min in Beijing. The meeting agreed to extend cooperation in industry and information technology sectors. While talking to the Chinese delegation, the chief minister said that China was unequivocally sharing its experiences of unusual achievement with Pakistan, and this benevolence of China reflected the unprecedented friendship between both the countries. “There is no doubt that the economic cooperation of China is very useful, and along with it, the Chinese advices are also very useful and beneficial.”
