Sir: Recently I had the chance to travel from Islamabad to Lahore via Motorway M2 along with my family. I was surprised to see a group of young men riding sports bikes. They were literally racing on the motorway, going zigzag between cars and putting other commuters’ lives in danger. The motorway is considered a safe road to drive on due to its structure and a very commuter-friendly policing unit. However, I was shocked to see a gang of sports bike riders using it for their racing. I wonder why they were even allowed to enter the motorway, as only cars, buses and other heavy vehicles are allowed to use that route. The motorway is to be used by LTVs and HTVs; therefore, it should not be used as a racing track for sports bikes. It is quite obvious that no reasonable person would use a sports bike to travel between cities. It is only sports bike racers who would use the motorway as a racing track. They have no right to put other travellers’ lives in serious danger along with their own. In my opinion, they should use proper racing tracks for such activities. I would also like to request the concerned authorities to pay attention to this serious matter and take measures to stop such abuse of a safe facility. HINA HAMEED BUTTaaaLahore
