Sir: Are we in our diplomatic missions, foreign portfolios, and government ministries not capable of fighting our case as India does? The Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has told the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a wide-ranging discussion on May 7 that India wants Iran to fulfill international obligations with regard to its nuclear programme, but New Delhi cannot lose sight of its energy security needs. Bravo. Iran was an important aspect of Secretary Clinton’s meeting with Prime Minister Singh as she made it clear that the US expects India to ‘do more’ and be part of the international effort to curb Iran’s reported bid to acquire nuclear weapons by defying inspection regimes. However, ironically, similar efforts by Pakistan to convince the US have either not been made or we have been more inclined to accept the holy pressure from the US in order to easily compromise our national interests. We seem to have lost on all fronts. HAMZA ALIMuzaffarabad
