Sir: Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister (CM) of Sindh, has presented a four-year performance report of his Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led coalition government in the Sindh Assembly on May 8.CM Shah has mentioned a number of steps that his government has so far taken for the betterment of the people of his province. By presenting a one-sided and self-praising performance report, he has forgotten to mention, may be due to his old age, some bitter facts. The entire Sindh and especially Karachi is marred by bad governance, incessant target killings, particularly in Karachi, deteriorating law and order situation, rampant corruption, extortion, load shedding — the list goes on. The recent operation in Lyari speaks volumes of the ability and working of the Sindh government. The Lyari operation, headed by SSP CIA, Chaudhry Aslam, continued for eight days without producing any result. The show of muscle of the gangsters and the lack of professionalism of Karachi police was exposed. All through the operation, the people of Lyari not only died without any fault of theirs, but also actually starved to death because of non-availability of food, water and other necessities of life. The people of Sindh have never seen such an inefficient government during the last 42 years in the province, despite having an ‘army’ of ministers. No doubt, the PPP would suffer in the next general elections because of bad governance.MOHAMMAD KHAN SIALKarachi
