Sir: Load shedding is now an everyday problem in cities and villages all over Pakistan. In Karachi, people suffer from eight to sometimes even 20 hours of load shedding. Until now, there are no solutions to this problem, and everyone — children, men, women, students, elderly people suffer a great deal. There are other major problems beside load shedding though. Electrical faults of cables, PMTs, power supplies, switches and many more electrical equipment burn, go out of order, or burst with a horrible sound and spark. Because of this, people face unscheduled load shedding and the faults of supply continue the whole day and sometimes even longer. Another issue is that of slow response to complaints by KESC. Their offices do not respond to complaints, especially in remote areas of the city. Be it minor or major problems, people have to wait for hours to file and have their complaints addressed. There is also lack of maintenance in the KESC units; this might be the main cause for the above-mentioned problems and because of which supply materials are destroyed and the supply of power stops. It is my request to all of the KESC authorities that if load shedding cannot be ended, at least proper, non-stop supply be provided to the citizens of Karachi. MUHAMMAD NOMAN RASHEED Karachi
