Sir: The genie of sectarian violence is again out of the bottle. How far its fear will travel is yet to be seen. The killing of a Wahabi scholar is something new and does not go with the style of Shia-Sunni killing. Chances are that a message is being sent that any sect other then the killer’s could be targeted to settle scores. I personally believe that the extent to which sectarianism has risen in Pakistan has much to do with the hate speech and material spread from mosques and seminaries. The recent closure of the main mosques of Shias and Sunnis in Gilgit-Baltistan stands witness to this fact. It is time for our religious scholars to dust off their personal interpretations of Islam and study the original message that has no room for hatred and massacre. MUNAWAR IRSHADaaLahore
