Sir: According to a UN report, the courts acquit 93 percent of cases registered against karo-kari (honour killing) in Pakistan. Similarly a local daily reported that 63 percent terror suspects have been set free because of lack of evidence. Interestingly, an elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged only through a note: ‘fix him’, and now dossiers after dossiers are submitted by the Indian authorities against the suspected terrorists of the Mumbai attack, and no sense of justice has prevailed, either in the judiciary, in the journalist community or amongst politicians. The time has come for the government to amend the law of evidence otherwise crime and terrorism will continue to grow in Pakistan. NAFEES MUHAMMAD Via e-mail
