Sir: The Liaquat University of Medical Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, is one of the leading medical institutions of the country. Its academic outlook and infrastructure has improved over the years, but there are issues that need urgent attention to save its prestige. Hundreds of patients visit the dental OPD, Civil Hospital, Hyderabad every day for dental treatment, but most of them have to return untreated because of lack of facilities and doctors to attend to such a large number of patients. The environment of the OPD is not satisfactory and needs renovation to make it comfortable for the patients and medical staff. Secondly, the management of LUMHS is under control of a group that ignore the standard operating procedures (SOP) of LUMHS. This group treats patients, students, house job officers, and other staff members insultingly and is especially rude with female students. Several complaints have been made to the administration by the staff, students and patients but unfortunately, no stern action has been taken about the highhandedness of this group of doctors. Through this newspaper, I want to request the concerned authorities to look into the matter and besides providing adequate treatment facilities in the dental department, the activities of the rowdy gang operating in the hospital should be curtailed. DR SHAFQAT ALI KHAN Jamshoro
