Sir: Coaching centres have seen a stunning growth in recent years. A decade ago, students would depend on school and college studies to get good grades. They would rely on their teachers’ intellect and capabilities. Teachers were then a source of not only good grades but personality development as well. Now the situation is that teachers deliberately teach halfheartedly in schools and colleges to encourage students to join coaching centres run by them. These tuition or coaching centres charge high fees while making students dependent on notes and ‘solved’ papers. The entire focus of teachers and students is on passing examinations. Learning or personality development through education is no more considered. I request our government to wake up and take stern action to restore the declining academic system of this country.
