Sir: I read with great interest Tony Letford’s column (Daily Times, May 30, 2012) titled, ‘What the Afridi Case says about Pakistan’, which was well written. Indeed, the country’s problems are enormous. Dr Afridi’s 33-year punishment is severe and by all accounts is a shameful act. As has been pointed out, he was the one who helped to show that the Pakistani authorities were incapable of finding the most wanted terrorist in history despite that fact that he had been hiding under their noses for several years. Why should Dr Afridi, who played a very small role in the killing of the world’s most wanted terrorist merit 33 years of imprisonment? It is a million dollar question. WARIS SHERE Winnipeg, Canada
