Sir: Theoretically speaking, every party has the prerogative of electing the prime minister of its choice. I was, however, shocked to learn about Raja Pervez Ashraf being President Zardari’s chosen candidate for premiership. I still wonder why President Zardari has selected a person who was allegedly involved in a shady project, and proved incompetent as the minister for water and power. Mr Ashraf’s false promises and the mess that he made of his ministry are still fresh in people’s memories. The appointment of Raja Ashraf as prime minister can act as the proverbial red rag to the thousands of people who are out on the streets, protesting against electricity outages. The PPP seems oblivious to the fact that by rewarding corruption and incompetence it is in fact rubbing salt into people’s wounds. AKBAR JAN MARWAT Islamabad
