Sir: After the summer break this year, when the students of a public school in Green Town, Shah Faisal Colony, Karachi, returned to their school, they were appalled to find their school reduced to debris. Now the students sit in the open air, on an uncomfortable floor mat, on the top of debris. Parents have little option but to send their children to the school. Most of the girls have stopped coming to school because their parents do not allow them to attend an open-air school due to security concerns. Several applications by the teachers and the administrative staff of the school have been written to Dr Fazlullah Pechuho, Additional Chief Secretary, Education and Literacy Department, Sindh. He has promised to solve this problem on an urgent basis, but so far, he has done nothing. The director of school education Karachi has not even bothered to visit the school. Despite giving repeated assurances, the government has done nothing to ameliorate the problem. Therefore, I once again request the authorities concerned to take remedial steps on a war footing so that the school is rehabilitated at the earliest. KAINAAT MAQBOOL Karachi
