Sir: The archaic laws and procedures applicable in our country, such as the Pakistan Penal Code 1860, Code of Civil Procedure 1908, Contract Act 1872, Court Fees Act 1870, Court of Wards Act 1903, Criminal Procedure Code 1908, Companies Act 1913 and so on are based on the legal system of British India. Pakistan, as an Islamic republic, also has been influenced by Islamic law because people have a deep affiliation with Islam. However, the existing laws are different from Islamic standards and norms and also cannot meet international standards of justice. There is a need to top archaic laws to serve justice to all. Existing laws are outdated and legislatures must take steps to change the archaic laws in our justice system to enforce justice in our society. If nothing changes, then we all will have to bear the same consequences. SHAMREEZA RIAZ Islamabad
