Sir: Through the pages of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to bring to light the burning issue of load shedding, which has created many problems for the people. It has been a long time since we gained our independence. We are the seventh biggest atomic power in the world, yet we have not been able to meet our needs of energy consumption. The reason behind this is that we are not honest to ourselves. Our politicians are corrupt and they have no concern with the grief and problems of the people. This is the reason behind why, even after 65 years of independence, we have not been able to resolve the problem of load shedding. Due to this, students suffers a lot and machinery in factories cannot work, due to which people on daily wages have lost their only means of livelihood. Because of all this, crime has increased and the law and order situation has become uncertain. Politicians, before getting into the government, promise that load shedding will be finished within two to three years but after getting into the government they always forget their promises and start making lame excuses. The duration of load shedding in Punjab is 16 hours, in Sindh it is 12 to 14 hours and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan it is more than 18 hours daily. If the load shedding problem is not dealt with quickly it will be a great hurdle in Pakistan’s future prosperity. SHAFIQ UR REHMAN Via e-mail
