Sir: Every political party has presented its agenda and has made many promises. Whilst issues such as load shedding and education are major priorities, what should be at the top of this list is none other than the matter of minority rights. Ahmedis, Shias, Christians and even Hindus have routinely been targeted by hate groups that are bent upon eliminating them from this country. What really counts is how the new government beats back these sectarian outfits and promotes peace and harmony in society. If we manage to get rid of intolerance in this society, we will be able to fight smaller demons with much greater ease. Sadly, I see only rhetoric and a mad rush to please the right-wingers. I do not see the political parties participating in these elections actually taking to task those who have made life hell for this country’s minorities. One can only hope for a better day.
