Sir: I am amazed at the role of the media in the episode involving a gunman who ‘held Islamabad hostage’; how can they make a minor issue into a major one? It is true that the entire incident was a security lapse but why create so much sensation and give prime coverage to the madness of one man? The media started saying that “one man has taken the capital hostage”. Contrary to what the media was projecting, the police and other security forces were reluctant to take action only as a preventive measure for the safety of his wife and children sitting in the car next to him, and for the common public who came as spectators. However, broadcasting such an incident on live television for such a long time will only give thought or insight to those people who believe in sabotaging the peace. Our media tycoons should revisit their policies and ask themselves whether they are in line with the state policy or their own interests.
