Addressing blame

Sir: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s first address to the nation after coming into power for the third time was a no go from the start. One thought that he would take the nation into confidence about the crises Pakistan is faced with. He talked about the energy crisis, terrorism, Balochistan, transparency, and the inefficiency of the people dealing with these grave problems. He narrated the issues and accused governments from the last 14 years. It is so unfortunate that the prime minister, throughout his address, blamed everyone for these shortcomings but failed to give any concrete solutions. His address only increased the frustration in the people instead of raising their hopes.

The prime minister wants to talk to those people who do not believe in the constitution of Pakistan and have killed nearly 40,000 innocent men, women and children, bombed schools and religious places and have shot a young girl who goes by the name of Malala Yousafzai just because she was campaigning for girls’ education. Balochistan still has no cabinet even after nearly two and a half months, which shows the non-seriousness of this government. The Nandipur power project is a clear example of the non-transparent way of this government’s working. One wonders why he had to address the nation. As the saying in Urdu goes, “Is takalluf ki kia zaroorat thi?”
