Sir: Before the commencement of the by-elections, during a press conference, Imran Khan presented a white paper comprising of written, pictorial and video ‘proofs’ of rigging in the general elections. He blamed the returning officers for their shameful role and said that for the continuation of democracy his party had accepted the election results. However, he intimated the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and said that if the same is repeated in the by-elections then the ECP will be directly responsible for such a discrepancy. As a common citizen, I was wondering during this press conference whether there will still be no change in the performance of our politicians or whether they will still remain busy in their point scoring games. Up until now, they could not bring any change to the system.
The people were very hopeful and enthusiastic when the PTI started its political campaign and were hopeful for change. In fact, the party elucidated one thing: criticising is easier than coming up with a positive solution. Our government and opposition have not come out of their election campaigns, with both still stuck in the blame game. Now is the right time for them to work jointly to counter the many problems the country is facing today. We have to come out of this quagmire through our combined efforts.
