Sir: These are strange times we are living in. A massive prison break occurs in Dera Ismail Khan. No action is taken against the responsible officials and there is no attempt made to capture those who made a mockery of the writ of the state by airing videos of the prison break. The top tier of the police force is eliminated in Quetta and the government responds not by taking action against the perpetrators but by announcing talks with the culprits. However, a television channel spreads awareness amongst the masses by showing a video of one of the most tragic incidents in our recent bloodstained history, and a case is registered without any delay against the television channel. What is this supposed to mean?
The government is either unwilling or is incapable of handling the security situation so it is trying to censor the media to prevent the masses from knowing the ground realities. Are they trying to keep Pakistanis in the dark about our stark realities? Are they trying to prevent them from realising that the future that awaits them is going to be even more destructive? It is a shame that, in this era of information and communication, the state is still applying draconian measures of censorship. They want the people to live in an imaginary world where all is well. The spread of such ignorance is what prevents people from realising where we are heading as a nation.
