Sir: The official website of Karachi University (KU) was partially hacked by Indian hackers on Friday August 30, 2013 after which the varsity’s communication department suspended the website in a bid to secure all its data. According to KU’s main communication network, hackers succeeded in uploading slogans of ‘Vande Mataram, and congratulation messages for Indian hackers on the main page of the website, which affected the DNS server. The uploaded content revealed that the hacking attempt had been done by an Indian hacking group. The university has said that the website will reopen after the scanning process. It is pertinent to mention here that a cyber-war has been going on between Indian and Pakistani hackers for a few days and several websites from either side have been hacked by both Indian and Pakistani hacking groups. Personally, I was hurt and shocked when I opened the KU website; as s student of mass communications, I feel very let down. I really condemn this incident and suggest that KU maintain its website in a proper way because it is visited by about two million people every week.
