Sir: War may sometimes be a necessary evil. However, no matter how necessary, it is always an evil. We will never learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children. The war of words has begun yet again with no solution in sight. Obama’s strategy is to reach out and attack Syria so as to indirectly threaten Iran, a Syrian ally. The White House is currently seeking Congressional approval. Pentagon officials have acknowledged the risks in a strategy that declares US ground forces will no longer be large enough to conduct prolonged, large-scale counterinsurgency campaigns like those in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr Obama’s nation is war-stretched and the people are war-weary, and so it makes sense to avoid war in the conventional sense. The forecast of this war is that the Pentagon, this time, is going to be more efficient by avoiding on ground forces and using technology more efficiently.
