Sir: The most important decision for students to make is to choose their career subjects in college or other educational institutions so as to continue with their careers. Students must know exactly what they want to pursue in college so that they know exactly where they are headed but it is unfortunate to observe that many students who take admission in college do not know which subjects to select because they hardly have any knowledge about the subjects on offer. Many students select subjects that their friends have selected, which is no criterion at all. This is especially true for students from government schools because they have received poor quality education and hardly know anything about the subjects available to them in college.
It is the duty of teachers to make their students able enough to choose the subjects they are passionate about but, unfortunately, this hardly ever happens in government schools where the teachers are just not bothered. Students come home and are hardly able to read the lessons they have been taught in class on any particular day — things are so bad in these public schools. So much for providing a good education to a poor nation! The destroyed education system and its failed teachers are unable to produce good students. The students cannot recognise their interests and so it is the duty of teachers to help students understand what interests them instead of their parents deciding for them. My request to all government teachers and higher education authorities is to please play their due role and bring improvement to the government education sector so that poor students who cannot afford to have better education in private schools are given the kind of education that will allow them to compete with students from the private sector.
