Sir: Pakistani society still feels shy and under-confident about psychological issues. Our people do not discuss psychological problems openly with mental health practitioners. In our society, many stigmas are attached with psychological problems, leading people to have their different mental health problems cured by quacks and general medical physicians. In a country where a large number of people have traumatic experiences due to terrorism, target killings and kidnappings, we see that psychological damage largely goes untreated whereas physical wounds are dealt with.
In Pakistan, people face multifarious problems every day. They routinely get irritated by traffic jams, load shedding, workplace stress and lack of recreational activities. Universities do not produce enough mental health practitioners and there is no certified authority that exists in the country to register all the psychologists and certify them. Living in this country, people need psychological treatment and prevention awareness regarding psychological issues. It is the responsibility of the state to provide psychological relief to the masses.
