Sir: On September 19, 2013, I contacted the NRC office of NADRA in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 15, Karachi, for the renewal/rectification of my national identity card number 61101-2778474-7. The official in charge at the NRC revealed a shocking fact: according to NADRA records, I am a married man whereas, in fact, I am still single. The official also stated that I should give him any false name for my wife and get the ID card made. When I refused, he declined my card’s renewal. Then I contacted the regional office of NADRA on October 3, 2013. The concerned officials gave me a sympathetic hearing but proved to be of no help. They told me to get the card made from Islamabad from where it was issued originally.
I have many apprehensions about the state of affairs at NADRA. What happened in my case does not seem to be in accordance with the law. Also, if someone is bent upon creating a new family tree with my identity, perhaps such a person might be intending to misuse it. I hope that my letter will find the attention of the chairman of NADRA and that I might soon be able to have my CNIC renewed.
