Breast cancer awareness

Sir: The cure for cancer, one of the deadliest diseases, has come a long way because of the miracles of science. However, the public still has to be educated about the types of cancers and their causes, effects and treatments. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancers that women face worldwide. With the recent burst of technology, it is easier to fight against breast cancer. It develops from cells present in the breast. The common symptoms of breast cancer are a lump formed in the breast, swelling in the armpit and redness of the skin. Experts have observed that this kind of cancer is usually found in elderly women (age 50 plus) due to menopause. Additionally, obesity also plays a vital role in adding to the risk of developing breast cancer.

Getting it diagnosed is an important step. Usually, doctors perform a biopsy or an ultrasound. In rural areas, women are shy and will hesitate getting a body examination done but it is crucial to see a doctor if symptoms are detected. Plus, it is essential to examine one’s body every month. Researchers have further identified that daily intake of fish oil has proved to lower the risks of breast cancer. Even though there are a few things that women need to do to avoid breast cancer, adults must demonstrate responsible behaviour and involve themselves in physical activity, maintain a balanced, healthy weight and breastfeed newborns. This will considerably help avoid the risk of breast cancer.
