Rule of law

Sir: We all felt that the peace dialogue between the government and the Taliban was very close to being materialised. Officials say that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stressed the need to stop the drones when he was in the US, especially at the time of talks with the Taliban. Despite all this, a drone was used while Hakeemullah Mehsud was in discussions with his shura (council). The attack on Hakeemullah Mehsud has caused a deadlock in the supposed peace talks.

It is very sad that the US continues to use drones because of the damage caused to innocent civilians as reported by Amnesty International. Nations emerge when there is rule of law, and are destroyed when there is no rule of law. Moreover, criticism by the PTI’s chief, Imran Khan, is a challenge for the central government. In his tirades, Imran Khan has given a deadline of November 20, 2013 to hamper NATO supplies in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. Why have the NATO supplies not been stopped over the killing of innocent people in Karachi, Balochistan and other places? Pakistan has been facing grave challenges. It is time to join hands for the survival of our motherland. All parties should abide by the rule of law.

IMRAN KHAN
