LAHORE: The 4th Hi-Tech Couples Golf was contested over 18 holes on Saturday at the Royal Palm Club Golf Course. And its outstanding feature was that men golfers, combined with their wives, competed in this remarkable golf event and added a touch of jubilation to their lives. Interestingly, not many golf arenas of the country can blow their trumpet over gathering so many couples who possess the expertise, in particular where women appear as skillful and appropriately talented as their male playing partners. As far as this feature goes, Royal Palm Club stands out. And in this event, women were as much in the spotlight as the men. The golfing prowess loaded couples like Imran Malik and Shazia Malik, Sardar Aquil and Sumer Omer, Col Azam Khan and Maimoona Azam, Raheel Islam and Abeeda Islam, Arif Irfan and Dr Shaheen Irfan, Aqib Zulfiqar and Arooj Kanwal and Mehmood Warriach and Shaheen Warriach made a combative golf contest of the occasion through accurate hitting, crisp fairway shot making and artful handling of the putter on the greens. While their competitive effort was commendable and golfing score respectable, the unvanquished couple turned out to be Ahmed Zafar Hayat, who plays to a noteworthy handicap of three, and his artful wife Tehmina Ahmed, who is an eleven handicap national level golf player. These two were flamboyant throughout the 18 holes stroke play competition and got noticed for excellent drives and perfect looking all round game. Their nearest rivals were Asim Tiwana and Rabia Tiwana, both possessing remarkable golf playing skills. Asim and Rabia ended the competition as runners-up in gross category. The third gross position was achieved by Shahid Nawaz and Fauzia Shahid. The net section performers were Shahzad Azam and Saqiba Batool (first net), Abid Aziz and Minaa Zainab (second net) while third net went to Ghulam Murtaza and Salbeeha Murtaza.
