Sir: The law enforcement agencies are not working in accordance with the government’s vision of providing peace and security to citizens and national assets. Instead of pre-empting attacks they are beating the odds: the odds of a person sitting in a plane hit by a bullet; the odds of a terrorist attack on the airport. Even intelligence, as had been provided well in advance in the case of the Karachi Airport massacre, is sidelined. Isn’t it horrifying that the security agencies are beating the odds and not pursuing any serious counterterrorism strategy? The war against terrorism has made Pakistan vulnerable; it is important that the security agencies become more vigilant towards ‘surprise’ attacks from the terrorists to save the government from further embarrassments.
