LONDON: Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said on Friday that authorities have foiled five terrorist attacks during the span of last three to four months. Talking to the media, Commissioner Dick said that hundreds of people who were either spreading hatred, supporting terrorist activities or were planning on being a part of one have been arrested over the past two years. She further expressed that some of the planned attacks were thwarted minutes before being carried out. “Some of them, we would say, were very close to an attack – very close,” she said. Expressing her concern regarding growing wave of terrorism in the country, she said that elimination of radicalisation and radicalisation transforming into violence remains necessary for Britain to tackle the dilemma. She went on to say that even though people are standing up to denounce extremist behavior and inform authorities of their concerns, there is still a lot to be done. “We clearly need a lot more, because what happened in the last few months alone is horrific,” she added. In May, Salman Abedi detonated a home-made device at a concert in Manchester killing 23 and injuring hundreds, whereas in June, London Bridge attack killed eight people and left 48 injured.
