LAHORE: According to the data released by Indian Border Security Force (BSF), Bangladesh is emerging as the new hub for fake Indian currency notes. Previously, the counterfeit Indian currency that was smuggled into India was reportedly manufactured in both Pakistan and Bangladesh with Pakistan being the major supplier but ever since the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 bank notes by the Indian government, Bangladesh has replaced Pakistan as the new hub of counterfeit currency. According to BSF, the counterfeit currency is smuggled into India through 13 border routes in multiple states of India including Punjab, Gujrat and Rajasthan. While the border routes connecting Pakistan and India have seen a decline in the total amount of counterfeit money smuggled, the ones that connect Bangladesh and India have seen a rise in smuggling of fake currency notes.
