QUEBEC CITY/MONTREAL: Canadians have shown solidarity with the Muslim community by holding vigils across the country in response to the Quebec City mosque shooting in which six Muslims lost their lives and two sustained injuries. The Quebec City mosque incident, which occurred a day after the Canadian government opened its arms to refugees and immigrants being deported from the United States, showed that Islamophobia was present even in countries like Canada. However, Canadians were determined to prove that the majority of them did not harbor any feelings of ill will against Muslims. On Wednesday, vigils were held across the country to show solidarity with the Muslims and to honour those who had lost their lives in the Quebec City mosque attack. Holding placards with phrases like ‘Praise, Salam’ and ‘Humanity is all we need’, protesters marched across towns and cities in Canada to show their support for Muslims. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also denounced the incident in a speech at a vigil which was held at Quebec City on Tuesday night. Even the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which is lit with lights and flags to show solidarity with victims of terror attacks, went dark to show support for the victims of the shooing in Canada.
