LAHORE: Today marks the fifth death anniversary of renowned Pakistani ghazal singer, Mehdi Hasan. Few had the command and authority on ghazals as the Aik Husn Ki Devi Se singer had and he is still regarded as one of the most prominent singers of his time. The 84 year old singer passed away on 13th June, 2012 at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, after struggling with a history of lung issues. Although the king of ghazals has moved on, the musical legacy he left behind definitely hasn’t, with people all over the world gushing at his infamous 1996 rendition of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s ghazal Gullon Mein Rang Bhare for which he also won the Nigar Award for Best Singer.
