SYDNEY: Australian pacer Shaun Tait announced his retirement from all forms of the gentlemen’s game on Monday due to niggling elbow injuries that had been keeping him out of the cricketing circuit for a while. Nicknamed ‘The Wild Thing’ by Australian cricket fanatics, Tait had retired from First class cricket in 2009, followed by his one-day internationals retirement in 2011. But the fast bowler continued to play as a T20 specialist and his last match coming against Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League’s 2016-17 season. “I honestly wanted to play a couple more years, whether it was over in the UK or here,” the 34-year-old said. “The elbow has pretty much gone off a cliff now, it´s done and dusted. Adding that “I suppose when you´re not contributing on the field as much as you´d like to, it´s time to finish up.” Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland while lauding the fast bowler for his services said in a statement “In his prime, Shaun was the world´s fastest bowler. It was incredibly exciting to watch him full flight bursting through the defences of the game´s best batsmen,” Tait represented Australia in three tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20s and his last international appearance came up against Indian opposition in a T20 played in Sydney last year.
