COLOMBO: Bangladesh are enjoying a purple patch in their cricket and are only one win away from a historic series victory in Sri Lanka. The tourists recorded their maiden Test win over the hosts a fortnight ago, before taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series on Saturday with a 90-run win in Dambulla. A victory in the second game on Tuesday, also in Dambulla, will seal the series for Bangladesh, who have never won a series against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will look for an improved performance in all three departments. Their bowling was below par as the tourists smashed 324 for 5 – their third-highest total against any opposition and the highest away from home. The hosts also conceded 23 extras including 13 wides in that innings. As far as the batting was concerned, the run chase never gained momentum and the hosts were shot out for 234 runs with four overs to spare. Fielding was the main worry as there were several misfields and after the game wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal mentioned that they could have kept Bangladesh below 280 with a better effort on the field. The hosts conducted an extended fielding session on Monday hoping to fix their woes. The second ODI, which is being played at the same venue as the first, will see a new track being used for the game which has more grass than the previous game’s surface.
