LAHORE: The Annual Infotech Golf Championship 2017 came to a successful conclusion after an eventful and competitive round of 18 holes at the par-72 Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Course here Friday. Endorsed by the House of Infotech , national and international IT related solution providers, this championship lured golfers of excellence in large numbers and although many of the competitors were determined to snatch victory, only the best ones managed to win honours and some very decent prizes. The best one in the gross section was Fakhar Imam of Defence Raya who secured the golf title through a round that can be graded as superb. He was accurate off the tees and backed up the tee shots with confident putting on the demanding greens. And the all round steady application of golfing skills fetched him a round of gross 76. His main challenger in the gross section turned out to be Sardar Murad Khan, a golfer of many accomplishments. Murad did make an effort to outshine the steady effort of Fakhar but was let down by bad putting on the concluding holes and his score mounted to 79 and as a result he lost the top slot in gross section to Fakhar by three shots. In the net section of handicap category 0-12, Farid Malik performed exceedingly well to claim the first net prize with a score of net 68. The runner-up was Asim Tiwana and his score was net 69. Other noticeable performances were by Abid Farooq in the seniors section, Shahid Kareem in the handicap category 13 to 18, where he won the first gross. Lt Gen Muhammad Bilal was the runner-up. In the net category of 13 to 18 handicap bracket, Zafar Iqbal was first net and Khurram Mazhar second net. At the end of the championship Naseer Akhter, CEO of Infotech, gave away the prizes to the winners in a ceremony attended by Ramzan Sheikh, Lt Gen Muhammad Tariq, Irfan Raja, Hafiz Yousaf and a large number of golfers.
