BARCELONA: FC Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde believes new signing Ousmane Dembele is ready to face the pressure of being the club’s most expensive buy in history, also praising the 20-year-old’s versatility. Talking to a news conference on Friday, Valverde said that the young Frenchman, who Barcelona signed for a record fee of €105 plus additional incentives, provides the Catalan club width on the pitch which the Blaugranas lacked after Neymar’s departure to PSG. “Dembele gives us width, something we lost and we needed. He can play on the left or the right, or even through the middle, he is quick and he is technically good. We hope he’s going to add a lot to the team. We’re really excited to have him.” Said Valverde. The Barca tactician further added that it is normal for people to expect outstanding performances for big-money signings which he expects Dembele to deliver when he enters the stadium in the club’s red and blue colours. “These type of signings generate a lot of expectation, but we think Dembele is ready for that and we expect the best from him. I don’t think, when he’s on the pitch, he will be thinking about how much he cost.” The 53-year-old said. When asked about further reinforcements to the team, Valverde said that the club has till August 31 to decide which players will arrive and depart from the Camp Nou, hinting that Dembele move was not the last of Barca in this summer’s transfer market. Dembele is expected to make his Barca debut against city rivals Espanyol next month after the International fixtures week concludes.
