NEW JERSEY: Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano said on Thursday that team-mate Neymar has a bright future in Spain and hopes he extends his stay at the club. Talking to media, Mascherano said that despite interest from French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) who are willing to pay €222 million for the Brazilian, he has not seen a change in attitude of his fellow starlet. “No, he’s not been affected by the reports, Neymar is accustomed to the pressure and people talking. There’s always going to be rumours and news around him,” said Mascherano. Mascherano further added that he hopes the 25-year-old commits himself to the club for years to come, as he remains an integral part of the Camp Nou side. “He is young and I hope he’s here with Barcelona for many more years. He is a really important player for the club,” he added. When asked if he would advice a thing or two to the Brazilian, he refrained, but confirmed that the player is pleased to be a part of the club. “I am no one to give advice, each person has to make their own decisions, but I see him really happy here, really happy,” said the Argentine. Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu rejected the idea of Neymar leaving the club saying that the player, who signed a long term contract in 2016 is not up for sale and clauses such as these are hard to activate. “These clauses are impossible to activate, if you want to comply with the financial fair play,” said Bartomeu. Barca trained behind closed doors on Thursday, but will conduct open training at Red Bull Arena on Friday as they prepare themselves for pre-season.
