ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will send a team to feature in the 5th Fujairah Open International Taekwondo Championship to be held in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates from February 23 to 25. “We’ve decided to send a 35-member squad to participate in the event. This will be Pakistan’s largest ever participation in an international event,” Pakistan Taekwondo Federation president Waseem Ahmed said Friday. He said the national federation wanted to give maximum exposure to youngsters ahead of the Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in May in Baku, Azerbaijan. “We’ll also send our five athletes to the US Open Taekwondo Championship to be held from January 31 to February 3.” He said in the US Open Taekwondo Championship Taha Naseem would feature in poomsae imaginary U30kg category, Ayesha Noor would fight in 53kg senior category, Mahnoor in 55kg Under-17 category, Yasir Javed in U40 category and Najia Rasool would participate in U30 kg poomsae and fight. “The government will provide Rs 10 million for the each event, while the national federation will also be supporting the athletes financially,” he concluded.
