KARACHI: Muhammad Ashfaq of Airmen Golf Club won the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Open Golf Championship with his 12-under-par (276) and clinched the trophy here on Sunday at Karachi Golf Club (KGC). Nine-time winner Shabbir Iqbal, who was leading on the final day, lost in the end by scoring a bogey to finish one stroke behind 11-under-par (277). Ashfaq, who won the championship for the first time with his 12-under-par (276) won Rs727,700 out of the total prize money of seven million, while Shabbir won Rs489,250 and Matloob Ahmed, who finished on third spot, won Rs 304,000. Hamza Amin and Muhammad Munir tied at fourth spot with their three-under-par (285). In the senior professional category, Javed Inayat won the first price of Rs153,600, while Imdad Hussain finished on runner-up spot winning Rs106,800. In the junior professionals, Zeeshan Khan won first prize of Rs64,800, followed by Minhaj Maqsood winning Rs37,500. In the amateurs net category, Captain Muhammad Imran Rana won with his two-under-par (286), followed by Ahmed Baig with one-over-par (289), while Khalid Mehmood and Malik Pervez tied on third spot with two-over-par (290). In the amateurs gross category, Ahmed Baig won by nine-over-par (297) followed by M Sharif scoring 11-over-par (299). In the women’s net category, Suneyah Usman won the title scoring two-under-par (70), won on countback after tieing with Farah Waseem on the same score line. In the women gross category, Humera Khalid won by scoring seven-over-par (79) followed by Cho Young Me on 10-over-par (82). Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. The four-day championship was played from August 17-20. The categories in the championship included 36 holes each for caddies, semi professionals, senior professionals and junior professionals. 18 holes matches were played for seniors and women, nine holes for veterans and 72 holes each for professionals and amateurs. With prize money of Rs.7.0 million, it was the richest-ever golf event of Pakistan and attracted more than 600 golfers from across the country.
