BARCELONA: FC Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique said on Wednesday that new manager Ernesto Valverde is the right man to lead the club. The former Chile national football team coach signed a two-year contract with Barca after Luis Enrique stepped down at the end of last season in May. Talking to media alongside team-mate Neymar, the 30-year-old defender said that he feels the new coach will add more success to an already decorated club history. “He’s the right person to move forward. He has consolidated his career with a lot of time in La Liga and he was a player for Barcelona. I think he has all the requirements to make a great year.” said Pique. Barcelona and Brazil forward Neymar also expects a triumphant year ahead, both with club and country, showing great faith in the Catalan club’s new boss. “I don’t know him personally but I have heard a lot of good things. Our aim is to win everything, always win, give our highest level.” he said. Valverde has spent two years as a player at Barca from 1988-1990, and has managed numerous Spanish league sides, including Athletic Bilbao, who thrashed Barcelona 5-1 on aggregate in 2015 Spanish Super Cup. Barcelona will begin their pre-season against Juventus on July 22 at Met Life stadium in Jew Jersey as they look to reign as champions again.
