DORTMUND: German club Borussia Dortmund officials confirm that the club has rejected FC Barcelona’s offer for forward Ousmane Dembele on Wednesday. The club said in an official statement that a deal is “not currently likely” since Barcelona offered less than what the player is worth. “Borussia Dortmund have held talks with Catalan football club FC Barcelona regarding the possible transfer of BVB player Ousmane Dembele,” the statement said. “During this meeting, Barcelona’s representatives submitted a bid which did not correspond with the player’s extraordinary footballing abilities nor to the current economic situation in the European transfer market.” “Therefore, BVB decided to reject the offer. As there is no further offer from Barcelona to date, the transfer of the player to Barcelona is not currently likely.” The statement concluded. According to media reports, the Spanish giants offered €100m, which was rejected by the German club as Dortmund expects somewhere around €130-150m for the French national. Dembele, who is reportedly willing to make a move to Barca, did not show up for the training session with coach Peter Bosz claiming to have no idea about the 20-year-olds location, after which the player has been suspended from training and matches until after the cup match on Saturday. Barcelona, who are linked to Dembele and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, have until August 31 to replace former forward Neymar before the transfer season ends.
