KINGSTON: West Indies cricket team battered India by nine wickets in the only Twenty-20 international match at Kingston on Sunday. Batting first, India gathered a healthy total of 190 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted twenty overs. Captain Virat Kohli (39) and middle order batsman Dinesh Karthik (48) were amongst the highest run scorers. In reply, the reigning T20 world champions achieved the target with 9 balls to spare and the same number of wickets in hand. Opener Evin Lewis, who scored unbeaten 125 runs from sixty two balls, was declared player of the match. Speaking after the match, Lewis said that match winning performance is significant personally considering his failures in the One-Day International (ODI) matches against India, in which he accumulated a total of only 57 runs in three games. West Indies captain Carlos Braithwaite said that he offered his teammates half his match fee if they were to score 50 or more. He also lauded Evin Lewis’ match defining knock marking the innings as “magnificent”. Indian skipper Virat Kohli was disappointed of the defeat saying that the team was 25-30 runs short, also pointing at the dropped catches. India sealed the ODI series against West Indies winning four games out of five earlier this week.
