LIVERPOOL: English football club Everton’s latest signing Wayne Rooney said on Sunday that winning a trophy with his new club will be the pinnacle. Rooney spent his youth years at Everton before joining Manchester United (MUFC) in 2004, where he won five Premier League titles, three League Cups, one FA Cup, one Champions League and one Europa League. Talking to a press conference, the former MUFC forward said that he aims to help Everton win their first major title since the 1995 FA Cup. “That would be the pinnacle because I remember the FA Cup final in 1995, I was there as a nine-year-old, and for that to be the last trophy, Everton should have won more trophies since then,” said Rooney. “This football club should be winning trophies and we’re taking huge steps to try to win trophies.” he added Rooney. Talking about Everton’s summer spending and a potential new stadium worth £300m, Rooney said: “With the new stadium in the pipeline, it’s an exciting time to be an Everton player, to be an Everton fan.” “I firmly believe we have the potential to be a success in the league and there are the cup competitions. We’re certainly capable of winning one of those cups.” he added. The 31-year-old English international will wear the number 10 jerseys with his new club, which was previously worn by MUFC’s latest signing Romelu Lukaku.
