KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Karachi Director General Col (r) Sirajul Naeem has said that the NAB Karachi has filed 50 corruption references and recovered Rs 1304.965 million during the present year, said a notification issued on Monday. While briefing the NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Naeem informed him that NAB Karachi disposed of 3,267 complaints during the present year. The numbers of complaints disposed in 2016 were higher than the number of complaints disposed during any other the previous years. In 2016, NAB Karachi, out of 109 complaints verifications, completed 33 complaint verifications. The NAB Karachi out of 151 inquiries completed 38 whereas out of 143 investigations, 40 investigations were completed on merit. NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that the NAB is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organisation assigned with the responsibility of elimination of corruption and corrupt practices through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. It operates under the National Accountability Ordinance-1999, which is extended to all of Pakistan, including FATA and Gilgit Baltistan, he added. He said the NAB is committed to eradicate corruption by adopting zero tolerance policy across the board by using all its resources. By keeping in view the assessed annual performance for the year 2015 based on evaluation under quantified grading system conducted by Chairman’s Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) during 2016 graded NAB Karachi’s performance as outstanding and excellent with 88 percent operational efficiency index (OEI) which is highly appreciated, he added. He further said that excellent performance of NAB Karachi under the supervision of DG NAB Karachi has been more than any one else in the history and directed all ranks of officials of NAB Karachi to work more honestly, vigilantly and diligently in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country.
