KARACHI: Counter-Terrorism Department of the Sindh police on Saturday claimed to have killed a suspect allegedly involved in police killings. Meanwhile, about a dozen suspects of the banned sectarian outfit militants were apprehended during the ongoing operations and raids in the metropolis. A suspected criminal was killed during an exchange of fire with the CTD personnel near Bagh-e-Korangi in Korangi Industrial Area. The encounter took place when the CTD personnel tried to intercept a suspected criminal riding a motorcycle, said CTD SSP Pervez Chandio ,the accused opened fire at the police instead of surrendering himself. The CTD personnel retaliated and killed him and also recovered a pistol and a motorcycle from his possession. His body was shifted to Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities completed at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. He was later identified as Wasim Aslam. SSP Chandio said that the killed criminal was wanted to police in various cases of target killings, particularly of police personal. Recently, he had killed the two cops in the Pak Colony area. Earlier while addressing a press conference, SSP Chandio said that the CTD police has also arrested two militants of sectarian outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. The suspects who were later identified as Abdul Ghani and Shaukat Sattar were arrested during an intelligence driven raid at Manghopir area. SSP Chandio further said that the accused persons had been involved in various cases of terrorism particularly in various parts of a city. Separately, five more suspected criminals were arrested during various raids in parts of Lyari and Keamari localities. The arrested suspects were identified as Kamran, Jalal, Abdur Raheem, Naveed and Nasir. Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by City SSP Faizullah Korejo. SSP Korejo said that the arrested criminals belonged to different groups of Lyari gang war including Uzair Baloch and Sheraz Comrade Groups. The accused persons were involved in various cases of crime including attacks and killings of law enforcers, target killings, extortion and kidnappings. In another raid, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) arrested three criminals namely Sohail Ahmed, Muhammad Siddique and Muhammad from Machar Colony area of Docks. Three pistols were also recovered from them. SP Farooq Awan said that one of the accused Sohail Ahmed was arrested by SIU three years ago in an extortion case but was later released after three years conviction. Meanwhile, the Rangers conducted targeted raids in Gadap and North Nazimabad localities. According to Rangers spokesperson, three criminals were arrested during the raids while weapons and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
