KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that his government was working hard to improve the efficiency of revenue collecting institutions to strengthen financial health of the province. He was presiding over a meeting regarding budget, `Resource Mobilization Proposal’ here at the CM House. The meeting was attended by Minister Excise Mukesh Chawla, Minister Agriculture Sohail Anwar Siyal, Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, Chairman Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) Khalid Mahmood, Advisor to SRB Mushtaq kazmi, Secretary Home Qazi Shahid Parvaiz, Secretary Agriculture Sajid Jamal Abro and others. The SRB told the chief minister that they have a target of Rs78billion collection for which they would be able to achieve it with a slight surplus or shortfall. The chairman SRB said that they had announced a tax incentive scheme which has received a good response. On this Advisor SRB Mushtaq Kazmi said that they have collected Rs8.5 billion record recoveries during this current month. The chief minister appreciated the performance SRB in strengthening the financial position of the government. He urged them to focus on compliance of SRB levies, as this would help to tremendously improve the recoveries. Secretary Excise & taxation Haleem Shaikh briefing the chief minister said that they have the target of Rs52 billion against which 90 percent recoveries have been achieved by the end of April 2017. Minister Excise & Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla told the chief minister that on the orders of the high court the liquor shops remained closed for two months, as a result the government incurred a loss of Rs500 million. The Board of Revenue over Rs12 billion collection target for the current financial year. The chief Secretary, Rizwan Memon told the chief minister that they have collected over Rs11 billion and by the end of the financial year the target would be achieved. It may be noted that the major collections of BOR includes Registration Fee on transfer of property, CVT and stamp duty. He said that he was giving particular attention to the development of infrastructure, completion of health, education, sports and cultural facilities by completion hospital, schools, playgrounds/ stadiums and developing performing art institutions.
