KARACHI: To celebrate the international week of French language and of French speakers the Alliance française de Karachi, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Switzerland and the Consulate General of France, organized “Soirée Francophone Franco-Suisse”. Philippe Crevoisier, Swiss Consul General and François Dall’orso, French Consul General highlighted the importance of French language and its significance for French speakers all over the world and in both countries. On the occasion short film “La Femme et le TGV” (the Railroad Lady), in French with English subtitles was screened. La Femme et le TGV is a 2016 Swiss French- language short film directed by Timo Von Gunten. It received critical acclaim and was nominated for many industry awards including the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 89th Academy Awards in 2017 with producer Giacun Caduff. Nausheen Dadabhoy, a Pakistani cinematographer based in New York and who is the Director of photography of the film, also spoke via Skype about her motivation and experience. At the end of the event, Jean-François Chénin – Director of the Alliance Française thanked the audience, present among which were other diplomats, leading businessmen, representatives of media and students.
